the old man is snoring

Right now it's monsoon season in New Mexico, and with this season comes the most interesting New Mexico tradition; rain dancing. Here in New Mexico we watch the skies for rain and when it comes we run outside, turn our faces upward, and enjoy the shower. The thing that's funny to me is that no one had to tell us that's what you do here, it's just instinctual, and everyone does it. I guess when rain is such a commodity it truly becomes something to be enjoyed fully, dancing and clapping and laughing while we get soaked. I have to admit, I've never appreciated rain the way I do now and I'm sure if I move somewhere greener it will go back to being a nuisance, something that interrupts our parade, but for now there is little that brings out such pure, childlike joy as a rainstorm, and we are all relishing each drop.

I love rain only when it comes with loud thunder. Georgia gets a lot of rain.... we dance for sun. Its cool that its normal to go out and dance in the rain tho..... this way people wont wonder if youve gone mad.

Don't you love that you can learn to appreciate stuff like RAIN when you're out here in NM!? I love the rain and always have, since I've lived here my entire life!!! I could get sick of it fast out in PA though! Hey, maybe we'll go out there together when Ben gets into Med School and get sick of it together--we could have a lot of craft days then . . .

It's raining, it's pouring, the old man is snoring.... Have you not heard that rhyme?

I have to admit, I'm a little jealous. All our rainstorms here are accompanied by a massive amount of lightning and thunder. Very amusing, but not something I want to rain dance in :) I'm glad you've taken up rain dancing though. Brings back some good old memories...sigh...

There is something so cool about this entry. It inspires another children's book...don't you think? The mental picture you conjured up was great! Love you! Mom
